ADMISSIONS NEWS  |  SUMMER 2020

Greetings from Ohio State!

Beth A. Wiser, PhD
Dear colleagues:

At a time when our country and the world should be coming together united by care for one another’s wellbeing, we continue to be harmed by racial injustice and discrimination faced by the black community. As members of The Ohio State University, we condemn anti-black racism and racism in all its forms, and we are committed to engaging, interrupting and dismantling institutionalized racist structures. Ohio State’s mission to prepare students to be leaders and engaged citizens calls us to demand and support change. President Drake announced actions to address institutional racism within our Ohio State community.

Amid these tragic events, we learned that Ohio State will welcome our 16th president, Dr. Kristina Johnson, in September. Dr. Johnson brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to carrying out the vision of Education for Citizenship. The university also announced plans to reopen in the fall — plans continue to develop and will be shared with students as decisions are made.

We are committed to working with you and your students, and we look forward to connecting with you in the coming year.

Sincerely,

Beth A. Wiser, PhD
Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions

Final transcript request

Please send by July 1

If you haven't already, please send final high school transcripts for students entering in autumn 2020. (If transcripts are not available until after July 1, please send them as soon as they're available.)
  1. Check your Status Report for students who show “Pd Acc Fee” in the “App Status” column. These students have confirmed their intention to enroll at Ohio State by paying the $100 acceptance fee.
  2. Send final high school transcripts for these students via an electronic transcript vendor. Be sure each transcript includes the date the student graduated and the signature of an authorized official school.
It is very important that you send the final transcript rather than simply verify that a student has graduated.

If submission through an electronic transcript vendor is not possible, you may email official transcripts to esue-studugt@osu.edu. You can also mail official transcripts to: Undergraduate Admissions, P.O. Box 182646, Columbus, OH 43218-2646.

Application options for 2020

Moving forward with the Common App

In order to streamline our admissions process, Ohio State will discontinue accepting the Coalition for College application in the 2021 admissions cycle and will return to using one application — the Common Application — for first-year students applying to the Columbus campus.

Ohio State remains strongly committed to the mission of the Coalition for College, which is to help underrepresented students learn about, prepare for and apply to college, and we encourage students and families to use the free college planning tools provided by the Coalition for College. There is no change for transfer students or for students applying to an Ohio State regional campus, who will continue to use our institutional application.

Early action deadline and testing updates

Our early action deadline has changed!

To give students additional time to complete their early action applications, Ohio State's early action deadline is now November 15, 2020 (previously November 1) for 2021 new first-year students applying to the Columbus campus.

Ohio State is actively reviewing the policy to require an ACT or SAT score for students applying to the Columbus campus for spring or autumn 2021. As of today, we continue to require ACT or SAT scores and will keep you and your students updated of any changes.

The last test dates that meet our early action deadline are October 24 (ACT) and November 7 (SAT). We will be flexible with students who test on these dates, even if we don't receive the scores by November 15.

Self-reported grades

No longer required on the Common App

For the past three years, students have been asked to complete the Courses and Grades section of the Common Application. This information has been utilized for research and to help our office determine how accurate self-reported information was.

We have made the decision to end this requirement. We will continue to require official transcripts from the school.

Virtual campus visits

On-campus visits on hold through fall

For the health and safety of our campus community and our visitors, we will continue to offer only virtual campus visits and appointments for the fall semester.

We continue to enhance our virtual engagement opportunities; learn more on our campus visit page.

We have updated our Q&A related to COVID-19, including the visit section and answers to common questions being asked by admitted and prospective students. If something's not there, let us know!
